Season Logbook - 2023

November 25

  • Decommissioning
  • Final harvest with some actual corn and carrots!

September 3

  • Another nice little harvest
  • Making pickles and pickled jalapenos

August 27

  • Pruned and tied, general maintenance
  • Corn coming in quite nicely
  • Herbs doing well
  • Handsome harvest, including some surprise cucumbers

July 30

  • Pulled up remaining lettuce from 6” pots and pea plants from grow bags
  • Rearranged garden to give tomatoes (and me) more space
  • Romas seem to be suffering from blossom-end rot (calcium deficiency)
  • Applied granular and liquid fertilizer (including calcium)
  • Transplanted some greens and herbs to 6” pots when possible
  • Printed my first fancy plant labels

July 24

  • Pruning and watering
  • Corn has sprouted
  • Tomatoes and peppers continuing to do well, as well as the single cucumber

July 15

  • Planted corn (4 grow bags, 3 seeds per bag)
  • First jalapeno and first cucumber!
  • Tomatoes and other plants continuing to thrive
  • Watered, staked, and pruned
  • Harvested some lettuce and mesclun (to make room for corn)

July 10

  • Started some seedlings in a tray, (4) cells each of:
    • Lettuce (Gourmet Blend)
    • Lettuce (Little Gem)
    • Arugula
    • Thyme
    • Rosemary
    • Basil
    • Dill
    • Oregano
    • Spearmint

July 9

  • Applied liquid fertilizer and pruned/staked a bit more
  • Tomato plants mostly looking very good, though a couple of the Romas are a little whithered (theory: underwatered)
  • Pepper plants mostly looking very good, though some of the leaves have holes (puzzle)
  • Both Sweeties and Romas are appearing, but no peppers of any kind yet (though flowers have begun)
  • Cucumbers are making a surprising comeback

July 3

  • Finished pruning and staking the tomato plants
  • Lettuce and cucumbers continue to be somebody’s snack, but everything else looks very good (except for maybe the peas)

June 24

  • Preliminarily staked tomato, pepper, and pea plants
  • Applied more liquid fertilizer
  • Did some pruning of some of the tomato plants
  • All indoor plants look very good, but I moved them all outdoors because of the smell (granular fertilizer)
  • Tomatoes, peppers, and carrots look good
  • Green onions finally starting to grow out a bit
  • Outdoor lettuce and cucumbers look like they are being munched on. What’s the culprit? Maybe deer leaning over the fence? Maybe rabbits crawling under the fence?
